San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino or Courtyard San Juan Miramar?
Headed to PR in February. Obviously the Stellaris is a more upscale place but will it matter for my purposes? For background: Will be myself, wife, 3 year old and 6 mo. old. Miramar has complimentary crib, not sure about Stellaris. We're very active explorer types, lots of experience lugging babies around so no real concerns there. Really just wondering if anyone has stayed at the Miramar and will it provide what I need for 4 nights and is the location decent? We'll spend a good chunk of time far out of SJ anyway but will want to check out OSJ obviously. It's quite a bit cheaper but if the location sucks, maybe not worth it. As an aside, thinking of spending 1 night in Ponce. Haven't been there in years but have heard mixed reviews of its safety lately. Curious what the thoughts are here. Thanks in advance.
I have 176K Marriott points to use for 5 nights in PR for 2/12-17. The options within my budget are below. Any help decide which might be the best option would be much appreciated!
Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino (160K): No beach access, although close to Old San Juan
Aloft San Juan (120K): Brand new property opening in Dec '19. Fairly close to the Sheraton so again no beach access but close to OSJ. Looks small. Don't expect lots of reviews but if anyone has anything to share it would be much appreciated.
AC Hotel San Juan Condado (120K): Close to the beach although doesn't look like there's beach access. Room size looks good and rooms look modern.
Courtyard Isla Verde: A little farther away from OSJ but looks like it has nice beach access. Only available the first 2 nights so I'll have to move somewhere else for the rest of the vacation. Any chance the 2 weekend nights might open up?
Best Marriott option for San Juan, PR points redemption?
Looking to do a points redemption trip to San Juan, PR. Does anyone have any recommendations ? Currently thinking the Marriott Resort & Casino, but there is also Renaissance for the same points, a St. Regis for a bit more and a decent looking Courtyard.. Any help would be appreciated. Im a titanium elite so a lounge is preferred. Thanks in advance Edit Post Stay: Incase anyone cares, or sees this in the future we ended up at the Renaissance. We had an ocean front room that had recently been renovated and was amazing. The resort is in good condition. Definitely recommend.
banging head against the wall—trying to book award seats on American
I am semi new to booking award travel so maybe I'm doing something wrong but I was searching for flights from DC area to either San Juan or Aruba. One flight came up BWI to PHL to AUA. I can drive to PHL in about 2 hours so I searched for PHL to AUA and instead of giving me that flight, now it wants go PHL>CLT>AUA or through Miami. or sometimes both with 2 connections!! WHY??????? This was just a spontaneous weekend trip because my friend has two free casino nights at either Ritz Carlton (or Marriott) San Juan or Aruba but the all flight options are terrible so I give up. It probably wasn't the best use of the miles anyway.
I'll try it and keep it short and to the point. It'll be me and my best friend, both males in our mid 20s. Arrive in SJ (monday) 5/16 at 2pm, leave 5/23 (monday). This is our itinerary so far, please critique/make suggestions. -Arrive at 2pm and check into our hotel in SJ. We decided to go with a hotel in San Juan because we'll be Airbnb-ing the rest of the way. As to the hotel, we are in between Marriott San Juan resort and Casino and Condado Plaza Hilton. We will be spending 2 nights there, would like to keep that budget at around $400 for both nights. As to the Hotel, we would like for it to be beachfront and a cool/nice pool area with hopefully a younger crowd. As for the 2 days in SJ, we plan on exploring around the hotel the first day when we arrive, and the second day checking out old san juan. -Day 3 (Wednesday), check out from the hotel early and head out to Fajardo. Hopefully get to el yunque at around 10am and do whatever there is to do in el yunque. After that, get a place to stay the night in Fajardo. Maybe explore a bit at night if there's any nightlife. -Day 4, wake up early and catch the ferry to either Culebra or Vieques. And here is where I have some questions, because I've heard that culebra is good for a day trip, but that Vieques, I should stay over night. -Day 5 (friday). Depending on what we do thursday, either go to culebra or vieques. -Day 6 (Satuday)- We wanted to take a trip to USVI, but I messaged the company that does a monthly ferry trip and they said in may, they will be doing it memorial day weekend which is after we leave. So Saturday is kind of open as of right now. -Day 7 - Head South West really early to Rojo Cabo, on the way there, hopefully stop by Toro Negro and spend a few hours there. Spend the rest of the afternoon at Rojo Cabo, and then head back to San Juan to stay our last night and catch our plane Monday morning. We will have some spare time monday morning (plane doesn't leave until 3pm) in SJ. Last couple of things; we are interested in nightlife but not clubs. Preferably local bars. We do want to snorkle, maybe go scuba diving. Definitely some kayaking. We are not completely opposed to sleeping one night in our hammocks (I hear people camp out in Culebra) Lastly, we are traveling from and back to the US with our valid driver licenses, from what I hear we will not need our Passports at all, is this true? Thanks
